Annotation | One of the most important roles of adult education is to narrow the educational gap between (and within) different generations. This article describes how the adult education policy debate in Sweden has changed since the 1960s, its humanistic perspective in the 1970s, to education as a key factor for economic success during the 1990s. A recent development has been the Adult Education Initiative (AEI); although lifelong learning is an important aspect in the AEI, over 55s are excluded. Study circles, which are free and voluntary and subsidised by the state, are an alternative solution. (RH). |
