AnnotationThe purpose of the survey is to help strengthen awareness across the European Union (EU) of major research initiatives, programmes and centres in ageing research; and the basis for co-ordination and national and EU initiatives. Its scope includes both ageing processes and the health and quality of life of older people, specifically: determinants and processes of ageing; consequences of ageing and disability for the older person, population(s) or care system; interventions to assist or improve the physical, mental and social functioning, or to reduce demands of the social and physical environment on older people; and major disorders, with a focus on major causes of morbidity. Most of the survey comprises status reports by each of the 15 EU member states; and while not aiming to be comprehensive, each includes overviews of objectives and strategies, and information on major centres.
