The King's Fund response to the report of the National Beds Inquiry | Corporate Author | King's Fund |
Journal title | Health Care UK : the King's Fund review of health policy, Autumn 2000 |
Pages | pp 47-54 |
Keywords | Hospital services ; Planning [admin] ; Long term ; Bed availability ; Kings Fund ; Comments or Evidence submitted. |
Annotation | The King's Fund welcomes the report, which is the first study of hospitals to emerge from the Department of Health for 20 years. The report should be seen as only the first step towards a properly structured process of planning service delivery against a background of continuing change. The King's Fund considers that, in the immediate future, the focus should be on developing the ability of hospitals, along with other providers, to cope with winter pressures and demand variations in general. Instead of providing definite answers to what are very complex issues, the DH should seek to define a process enabling all issues to be considered. The "one size fits all" does not make allowance for differences in geography, existing health buildings and local preferences. (RH). |
