AnnotationThe authors present a brief overview of the range of measures of psychological health available for non-clinical community samples, organised by how scores appear to vary with respect to age. They discuss their selected measure, the Psychological Health Index (PHI), which they use for sub-sets of the 236 participants at ages 14, 18, 30, 40, 50, and 62 of the Berkeley Growth Study, the Berkeley Guidance Study and the Oakland Growth Study. Latent curve analyses were used to explicate the life span development of psychological health. Psychological health appears to be stable in adolescence and to steadily increase from ages 30 to 62. The authors discuss the advantages and value of the PHI and the power of latent curve analysis to explicate longitudinal stability and change. (RH).
