Annotation | The process of assessment of 33 older people in Aberdeen for residential or nursing home care was compared for hospital based social workers and care managers working in the community. While there were differences in procedures between the assessment processes, outcomes appeared to be similar. Evidence of a multi-disciplinary assessment was not always available, especially community referred individuals. A greater emphasis on a multi-disciplinary assessment could highlight a need for rehabilitation, which might enable some older people to continue living in the community - often in accordance with their wishes.
