Annotation | The US National Elder Abuse Incidence Study (NEAIS) conducted from 1994 to 1999 provides the most compelling data to date, with a new model for approaching detection. This short article summarises the commonly documented "theories" for why abuse occurs: dependency; cycle of abuse; life crisis and profiles of perpetrators; and reporters and non-reporters. (RH). |
