Annotation | Environment and occupation play important roles in the ageing process. This paper studies the process of ageing in two environmental situations in India (Haryana - plains, and Himachal Pradesh - mid to high altitude) with subjects from two different occupations (farmers, and people working in offices and shops). Biological variables measured were blood pressure and muscular strength. Although the older people in Haryana were found to be more secure and socially more active, those in Himachal Pradesh were more physiologically active, indicating the importance of environmental considerations.
