Annotation | Elderly persons support units (EPSUs) are a major innovation in the care of older people, initiated by Sheffield Family and Community Services Department. These units are locally-based and staffed by community support workers to provide a range of services required by older people, from domiciliary assistance to comprehensive care. This evaluation reports on one of three such EPSUs, with the objective of examining the impact and effectiveness of the innovation in older people's social care. The primary focus is on older people and their informal carers. The project was anticipated to run from March 1984 until May 1987. (RH). |
