AnnotationSheffield City Council has opened the first elderly persons support unit (EPSU) in the country. The philosophy behind the EPSU model is of older people having some control over their lives, being able to define their needs, and to view old age in a more positive light. The authors conclude that the initiative represents one of the few signs of progress in improving the organisation and delivery of social services for older people. (RH).
