AnnotationRhondda Cynon Taff was created an Authority in 1996 from an amalgamation of 45% of the former Mid Glamorgan and three Borough Councils of Cynon Valley, Rhondda and Taff Ely. The percentages of those aged over 65 and over 75 are lower than the Welsh average; and the area has high levels of socio-economic deprivation. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well the Authority's social services serve its population. The review found that, in many ways, people are well served by social services, but identified problems with management of the Authority's finances. The User and Carer Survey found generally high levels of satisfaction with services. Reviewers saw much professional care management in services. Examples of good practice include a Carers Support Project providing advice, information and support to carers; and involvement in the Better Government for Older People (BGOP) pilots. (RH).
