AnnotationA study of 570 American women aged 60+ with heart disease assessed the effects of a disease management programme on physical functioning, symptom experience and psychosocial status. Women were randomly assigned to control groups, or to program groups of 6-8 women who met weekly for 4 weeks with a health educator and peer leader to learn self-regulation skills with physical activity as the focus. After 12 months, compared with controls, the women on the health education programme had improved their physical function and symptom experience. (RH).
