AnnotationInformal learning is seen as one way of removing barriers and widening participation in learning. The Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) commissioned the Tavistock Institute to carry out a research study to find out more about the nature of informal learning, and to identify the barriers to informal learning and the main benefits associated with it. The study excluded "work-based" or "on-the-job" training. This briefing outlines the study's methodology and its main findings. (RH).
