Annotation | It is suggested that older people who are involved in learning benefit in terms of their own health and well-being; and that they lead a more active social life and become involved in their community. A sample of 336 over 50s from the 1997 National Adult Learning Survey (NALS) was re-interviewed in 1999. This report explores the nature of their participation in learning; the reasons for participating or not in learning; and the impact of learning on their health, family and social lives. The report also outlines the methodology, the definition of learning used, with an overview of relevant literature. The survey illustrates how learning has an impact on the well-being of older people, and on their life satisfaction. Possible directions for future research are discussed. (RH). |
