Annotation | The latest 1996-based estimates of households from the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, "Projections of households in England in 2021" (DETR, 1999) indicates that the number of households in London is expected to grow by 643,000 between 1996 and 2021. This paper examines the trends in each household type. It describes the characteristics of one-person households, which will account for two-thirds of household growth in London. Most of the extra one-person households will be aged 30 to 60; but it is older people living on their own who are likely to make greater call on local authorities for care and support. (RH). |
