Annotation | Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) has become a valued tool in assessing dementia care provision. This article focuses on organisational, professional and practice development issues that have evolved following the introduction of DCM as a quality assurance tool in 1995 in the Psychiatry of Old Age Directorate of Priory Healthcare Wearside NHS Trust. The authors describe the problems arising between care mappers and nursing staff, and the consequent need for a different strategy. In the long run, the changes made have enhanced the experiences of care mappers and clinical staff, and significant advances have been made in care that is person-centred. (RH). |
