Community housing and beyond extending lifestyle choices for older Australians | Author(s) | Malgosia Zlobicki |
Journal title | Generations Review, vol 10, no 2, June 2000 |
Pages | pp 11-12 |
Keywords | Architectural design [housing [elderly]] ; Consumer choice ; Social characteristics [elderly] ; Australia. |
Annotation | The potential of the physical environment to enable or disable older people is often underestimated. Housing must be barrier-free, and should also enhance the abilities of residents through design. The aim of this paper is to identify, explain and promote the importance of four design approaches which are relevant to all forms of housing for older people: universality, wayfinding, lifestyle focus, and therapeutic orientation.
