AnnotationThe home support required to enable less mobile older people to continue to be included in society and living at home have been a focus of Panels since their inception in 1992. In a keynote speech to the Conference, Ian Gray, MSP, Deputy Minister for Community Care, outlined the Scottish Executive's Action Plan, specifically: care at home; returning home from hospital; equipment, adaptations and community alarms; and respite care. Two workshop sessions involved Panel members and service providers discussing a case study on the need priorities of an 85 year old widow. This report highlights issues of continued concern to frail older people in their bid to remain living a good quality lifestyle in their own homes. The main issues highlighted to be tackled were: identifying "key links" of GPs, friends, family and carers; one individual to assess the needs of a person as a whole and to be the contact for organising care; help in the home with daily living tasks; housing adaptations; ensuring that the older person's views are listened to and responded to; and worry about losing mobility and independence.
