AnnotationHospital and community services for older people provided by Argyll and Clyde Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Lomond and Argyll Primary Care NHS Trust were inspected in the local authority areas of Argyll and Bute and West Dunbartonshire. The Argyll and Clyde Health Board has identified improving services for older people as a high priority in its Health Improvement Programme (HIP). The Health Board aims to: tackle service inequalities; work with trusts to improve quality of life issues of location, physical environment and standards of service; enable people to be care for at home through the development of community care; and prevent inappropriate admission to NHS continuing care and reduce delayed discharges. This report examines the quality of care and services and quality of life for frail older people in the community both on the mainland and on the islands of Bute, Mull, Tiree and Islay. In addition to the problems identified by the health Board and the inspection, many examples of good practice are noted. (RH).
