AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well the people of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames (RBK) are being served by their social services. The review considers how services are arranged for individual people; how the care needs of the population are planned for; and how well available resources are being used. Users' and carers' views were also sought. The Joint Review Team concludes that residents and users of social services in RBK are consistently well served by motivated staff, effective services, and examples of impressive professional practice underpinned by sound systems and processes designed to meet people's needs. Effective arrangements for assessment and review support and encourage users' participation. Examples of good practice include dementia care mapping for older people in residential care, and an early onset dementia strategy. Key issues identified for maintaining a high level of performance are: improving cost consciousness; managing and measuring performance; and exploiting untapped potential within the Community Services Directorate and the rest of the Council.
