Annotation | The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well the people of Telford and Wrekin are being served by their social services. The review considers how services are arranged for individual people; how the care needs of the population are planned for; and how well available resources are being used. Users' and carers' views were also sought. The Review notes that since the transition from Shropshire to being a unitary authority in April 1998, Telford and Wrekin has made progress in extending the range and improving the quality of services. Awareness of the needs of carers was low, and there was a lack of separate carers' assessments. Positive examples of preventative and rehabilitative work include the Joint Extra Support Service and the Mental Impairment Team. However, the policy of supporting people in the community is threatened by the shortage of home care support. Priorities for action identified by the Review include: improving access to services; improving quality of services; further development of services; developing a strategic commissioning approach; and strengthening and integrating services to deliver change.
