AnnotationIn the next twenty to thirty years, the UK population will age markedly. The Ageing Population Panel was asked to look at the social and economic impacts of this change, and to assess their implications for business, work and leisure. The Panel's brief within the Department of Trade and Industry's (DTI) Foresight Programme was to look at the entire population - not just older people - and to consider the effects of demographic change. Taskforces were set up to explore five key issues, which are the focus of this report: labour, leisure and learning; finance; healthcare and the older person; design for living; and applications of information and communications technology (ICT). The findings of each Taskforce are published as separate discussion documents. Based on input from the Taskforces, this consultation document provides an overview of the Panel's thinking as to key trends, opportunities and challenges. The closing date for comments and responses is 15 September 2000; a final report is anticipated in November 2000. (RH).
