AnnotationThis is the final evaluation report on the UK Programme of the International Year of Older Persons. It lists most of the 600 national and local activities held, and focuses on the five core projects: the listening to older people events programme; a photographic project promoting images of older people; a project mapping learning for life; the Worldwide Walks (Global Embrace) on 2nd October 1999; and a UK wide audit of national, local and regional newspapers examining the portrayal of older people in the media. The report considers the advantages and disadvantages of holding an "international Year". Overall, IYOP is considered to have made a lasting contribution to the work of the sector, and to have demonstrated the importance of the role of older people in society. (RH).
