AnnotationThere has been a growing interest in measuring outcomes of health care and health-related quality of life for older patients. This is the first of three review papers describing a total of 69 instruments. It provides summary descriptions of 17 measures of general health status and quality of life. They are: the Karnofsky Performance Index; the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale (AIMS); Spitzer's Quality of Life Index; Physical and Mental Impairment-of-Function Evaluation (PAMIE); Duke Health Profile; McMaster Health Index (MHIQ); Sickness Impact Profile (SIP); Nottingham Health Profile (NHP); Short Form - 36 Health Survey (SF-36); Short Form - 20 Health Survey (SF-20); Self-evaluation of Life Function Scale; Multilevel Assessment Instrument; OARS Multidimensional Functional Assessment Questionnaire; the Comprehensive Assessment and Referral Evaluation (CARE); the EUROQOL Quality of Life Scale; the Functional Status Questionnaire (FSQ); and the London Handicap Scale.
