AnnotationPatient views on the quality of care are usually assessed by means of patient satisfaction questionnaires. Using focus group methodology, the authors developed QUOTE-Elderly - an instrument for measuring quality of care from the perspective of non-institutionalised older people - by using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. Empirical data was obtained on the opinions and experiences of 338 Dutch older people. The authors used explorative and confirmative factor analyses and reliability analysis to evaluate the taxonomy of the instrument, the internal consistency of (sub)scales and the instrument's feasibility. Using scale optimisation, they produced a self-administered questionnaire on quality of health care for the perspective of older people. This contains scientific characteristics and provides specific information for practical quality assurance policies. (RH).
