Annotation | When people experience loneliness in old age, it has significant implications for their health and their use of community services. Although some work has been done on assessing loneliness, there is no specific assessment tool which community nurses can use for assessing patients' loneliness. Treatment can increase older people's quality and quantity of social interaction, and could include: referring to day care, clubs, reminiscence groups or befriending services; having a pet; and referring to counselling to help in forming and maintaining relationships. The article includes a case study. (RH). |
