AnnotationMore than a year after the Royal Commission on Long Term Care reported, what are the Government's policy options on the care of older people, and how should these be funded? Leading experts presented their views at this Care Choices conference in association with the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA). Julia Neuberger's keynote speech, "A philosophy of care", concerned society's obligations in meeting older people's care expectations. Robin Wendt, a member of the Royal Commission, spoke on the economics of long-term care provision and the limits of the contribution from general taxation. John H James considered government policy options within the need for fairness and better value. The problems facing the effective provision of domiciliary care were considered by Melanie Henwood. Kent Phippen and Michael Corp presented facts and figures on the crisis in the residential sector. Finally, Paul Fenn and Paul Seymour examined the role of the insurance sector. The Conference urged the Government to accept that issues on long-term care and related services will affect everyone: additional resources were vital to the adequate funding of domiciliary and residential care.
