AnnotationMore people are leaving work, often unwillingly, between the age of 50 and the State Pension Age; and some older groups' involvement in community activity is also low. This summary report outlines the main report's findings as to trends and causes of these two problems. The report concludes that action should be taken in four areas: changing the culture to ensure that our value and potential are recognised as we age, if necessary passing legislation to outlaw age discrimination; helping and encouraging over 50s to keep working, by improving their experience of work and by removing incentives to leave early; helping and encouraging those who have left work to find new jobs; and helping older people to contribute to their communities beyond paid work by improving opportunities to volunteer.
