AnnotationTen "Listening Events" were held around the country from June to November 1999, to enable Ministers to understand more about older people's concerns. Events were co-hosted by the Inter-Ministerial Group on Older People, the UK Secretariat for the International Year of Older People (IYOP), and voluntary sector organisations working with older people. Events took place in Belfast, Newcastle upon Tyne, Leamington Spa, Cardiff, Harrow, Liverpool, Southampton, Truro, Aberdeen and Wolverhampton. While the events in Liverpool and Newcastle focused on lifelong learning, and that in Harrow on volunteering, others offered opportunities for more wide-ranging discussions. Three themes emerged as priorities: income and pensions; health and care; and transport and access. This document summarises participants' views both overall and at each event. (RH).
