Annotation | According to the 1990 General Household Survey (GHS), there are 6.8 million carers in the UK; and based on the 1991 Census, there are between 30,000 and 40,000 carers in Ealing. Carers are the main providers of care in the community, and the value of the care provided by the 100 carers in this survey alone could be as much as £2 million a year. Findings are presented on carers' employment, income and benefits, and the financial costs of caring. Improvements that would make a difference to carers' lives are more services to give them a break or for help in the home, and more money for both themselves and the person helped. Recommendations are made for central government and the local authority. (RH). |
