Annotation | Validation is a developmental theory for old-old maloriented and disoriented people and a method for categorising their behaviour. It also refers to specific techniques to help mal- and disoriented very old people regain dignity both through individual validation and through validation groups. Basic principles developed by behavioural, analytical and humanistic psychologies underlie the theoretical assumptions, such as Erikson's theory of life stages and tasks. The author identifies and describes the four stages of disorientation, which are malorientation, time confusion, repetitive motion, and vegetation. The techniques for implementing individual validation for each stage are outlined. The book also provides an outline of validation group work, and includes charts, forms and tests. (RH). |
