Annotation"Death, dying and bereavement" is the Course Reader for the Open University course K260 "Death and dying", and addresses both the practical and metaphysical aspects of death. An interdisciplinary approach is adopted, including perspectives from literature, theology, sociology and psychology. Contributions - many of which were commissioned for this book - are from professionals, with more intimate accounts from carers and bereaved people. The book is in four parts. Part 1 contextualises the contemporary experience of dying and death. Part 2, on preparation for death, considers law and ethics in medicine. Part 3, on caring for dying people, focuses on treatments, therapies and palliative medicine. Part 4 concerns bereavement and grief, and what can be done to diminish their pain. (RH).
