Annotation | Community regeneration schemes - such as those proposed by the Social Exclusion Unit (SEU) - are failing to recognise the needs of older people, and many have been left without a voice in their own neighbourhoods. Expressions of concern by Age Concern England (ACE) to the SEU are highlighted, as is ACE''s suggestion that regeneration funding should include a stipulation that older people are consulted. In contrast, Southwark Council has recognised the importance of involving older people in its regeneration programme. The Better Government for Older People (BGOP) is seen as best placed in ensuring that older people are represented. Even so, the social exclusion debate is perceived as being focused on children and young adults, and with older people the most excluded of all. (RH). |
