Annotation | The Cognitive Performance Test (CPT) was developed from the Cognitive Disability Model. The test is an evaluation tool based on observation of the individual while he/she carries out standardised activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental ADL (IADL) tasks. The objective of the study was to determine the reliability (inter-rater reliability and internal consistency) and validity (concurrent and construct) of the CPT in Israel as an assessment tool to evaluate cognitive performance level in clients with dementia. Subjects were 30 older people with dementia and a control group of 30 healthy independent older people matched for age and gender. Instruments included the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) for screening, to differentiate between research and control groups. The Routine Task Inventory (RTI-II) was used as the criterion for concurrent validity. Results showed the CPT to be valid and reliable, with moderate to high correlations of the CPT and RTI-II, and the CPT and MMSE in both the research and control groups. Further development and updating of the CPT test is recommended, as well as additional research to support the current findings. (RH). |
