Annotation | Linda Perham's Private Member's Bill was supported by MPs from all parties. If enacted, it would have been unlawful to publish an advertisement for employment or contract of services specifying an actual or preferred age or age range, unless justifiable on grounds irrespective of age (e.g. physiology, or restrictions imposed by laws regulating certain occupations or appointments). It included provision for publication of codes of practice containing practical guidance in relation to considerations of age in advertisements. This Bill was dropped after its second reading on 6 February 1998. (KJ/RH). |
