Annotation | Commissioned by the Department of Health, this research forms part of the National Diet and Nutrition Survey which aims to gather information about the diet and nutritional status of the British population. This report presents the findings of a survey of the oral health of 955 adults aged 65 years and over carried out over 12 months from January 1995. The results of oral health examinations and interviews, and data analysis are presented in tabular form accompanied by a commentary. Information on the following is included: oral health of those with and without teeth; variation in oral health according to socioeconomic characteristics and place of residence; the influence of oral health status on general well-being; the influence of having some or no natural teeth on food choice, nutrient intake and nutritional status; the relationships between some aspects of food consumption and dental disease; and the relationships between oral health and some measures of systemic health. The accompanying volume (1) gives further detail on the diet and nutrition of the participants and others. (AKM). |
