Annotation | How do you go about evaluating the quality of a dementia care service? The authors outline the history and development of Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) by Tom Kitwood, Kathleen Bredin and the Bradford Dementia Group (BDG). From the outset, the DCM method has been grounded in an underlying philosophy of person-centred care. Its other attributes include its use for ongoing development of care practice, the identification of staff development needs, and monitoring improvements. DCM is now also used worldwide, indicative of its strengths in evaluating dementia care. (RH). |
