AnnotationA focal point of the 1999 UN International Year of Older Persons (IYOP) in the UK was the value of continuing to learn. A "Learning Through Life" steering group convened by the UK Secretariat agreed on the usefulness of developing a multi-purpose tool showing how to draw together information about learning opportunities for older people in any chosen locality. The tool was written by NIACE, with DfEE funding for the piloting, producing and distribution of materials and information. The mapping tool is both a planning exercise and community development activity. This document includes information on using the mapping tool and the types of national and local organisations who could be involved: the Older and Bolder Mapping Tool listing national organisations and the range of activities provided is given as an example. A guidelines section lists points to be considered at all stages of the mapping exercise. NIACE is seeking feedback from mapping projects, for which a users' questionnaire is included. (RH).
