AnnotationThe quality and extent of clinical care offered to population in Borders region is very good, with many examples of good practice. The community hospitals are also recognised as providing good intermediate care to local communities. However, this is not matched by good quality of life for the older person who is in hospital. This report reviews services provided by Borders Health Board, Borders General NHS Trust, and Borders Primary Care NHS Trust. It recommends reviewing the following policies: use of restraint and risk management; resuscitation; core documentation; symptomatic relief; the use of Incapax; and verification of expected death. It also recommends a review of services for the physically disabled. (RH).
