AnnotationThe Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has a dementia strategy as part of the Gerontological Nursing Programme (GNP), which includes a specialist role for nurses in dementia care. The GNP integrates the RCN's policy, education, research and practice development work with older people. The dementia strategy focuses on the following key areas: assessment; long-term care; maximising potential; gerontological specialism; ethics; and organisational working. Each theme is considered from the multiple perspectives of policy, education and learning, and practice development. In this work, the RCN is very much concerned with person-centred approaches and personhood. (RH).
