Journal title | Reviews in Clinical Gerontology, vol 9, no 4, November 1999 |
Pages | pp 383-393 |
Annotation | This paper discusses the topic, in the light of the Royal Commission report on funding long-term care (With respect to old age : long-term care rights and responsibilities, 1999). It looks briefly at the history of long term care; and considers continuing care and the assessment of needs. It also highlights the relevance of Maxwell's (1984) principles of purchasing long-term care which should underlie any service: access to services; relevance to the needs of the whole community; effectiveness; prolonging life; prolonging the quality of life; equity; social accceptability; efficiency and economy. It ends with an opinion on the Royal Commission's report. (KJ). |
