A century of centenarians | Author(s) | John McCormack |
Journal title | Generations Review, vol 10, no 1, March 2000 |
Pages | pp 10-12 |
Keywords | Centenarians ; Demography ; Social surveys ; Australia. |
Annotation | The author is undertaking a study of centenarians in Australia, and presents a preliminary picture of people in this extreme age group and those approaching the oldest ages. As there are no exact figures on the number of centenarians in Australia, the sources on which possible figures may be estimated are assessed. These include the 1996 Census and statistics from Australia's Department of Health and Aged Care. Recent Australian Life Tables highlight a levelling out of mortality rates for very advanced ages, particularly males. (RH). |
