Annotation | People with dementia and their carers need to be involved in the development of assessment tools. The authors present their paper given at the PSIGE conference, in which they proposed that improvements in assessments could be achieved through integration of qualitative methods in the development of quantitative tools. They define qualitative and quantitative methods, and discuss combining the two, citing the following as examples: the Location Learning Test (LLT); the Bristol Activities of Daily Living Scale (BADLS); and development of a measure of quality of life in dementia. Qualitative methods are useful not only in qualitative projects, but also in increasing the validity and meaningfulness of quantitative research. (RH). |
