Annotation | Nurses should ensure that patients in nursing homes receive appropriate dietary care. This article discusses key practical issues for nurses in meeting the nutritional needs of older people in nursing homes. It considers the impact of ageing and health on nutritional status, and the importance of screening and assessment on admission to a nursing home. Practical measures for overcoming problems such as swallowing and choking are outlined. Also covered are special diets, menu planning, and food hygiene.
