Annotation | There is a lack of research on perceptions of future retirement needs and retirement actions implemented by rural middle-aged persons (45-64 years old). This study, conducted in three rural counties in North Carolina, aimed to identify the following: issues important in retirement for rural middle-aged persons; preparation plans; perceptions of future needs regarding certain aspects of retirement; and relationships of issues, plans, and perceptions to certain demographic variables. Results showed that finances, health, and well-being were important issues among the participants. Many respondents were undertaking pre-retirement actions in the area of finances. (AKM). |
