Stigma substance misuse in older people | Author(s) | Judy Greenwood |
Journal title | Geriatric Medicine, vol 30, no 4, April 2000 |
Pages | pp 43-45 |
Keywords | Drug taking ; Alcoholism ; Attitudes to the old of general public ; General practitioners. |
Annotation | Older substance misusers are doubly disadvantaged, because of attitudes to old age and drug and alcohol misuse. General practitioners (GPs) have a key role in reducing barriers to successful treatment, and are especially well placed to deal with the stigmatisation of substance misuse. The article outlines the causes of substance misuse and the GP's role in managing substance misuse. (RH). |
