It is based on the experiences of the Westminster Advocacy Service for Senior Residents (WASSR). Section one describes the symptoms, progress, and experience of dementia. Section two outlines the general principles of advocacy, which are then related to people with dementia in section three. Section four gives guidelines on communication with people with dementia. In section five, the role of the advocate in supporting people with dementia living in the community and in residential care are outlined.
