Annotation | In co-ordinating care for ageing clients throughout the long-term care system, case managers must share client information with families, other professionals, and organisations. This often presents an ethical challenge, as the case manager attempts to balance the desire to protect the client's right of privacy and autonomy with the need to provide the necessary information to ensure that appropriate care is delivered. This article examines the issue of confidentiality in geriatric case management and current practice guidelines on the management of confidential information. Additional steps for promoting confidentiality in case management are discussed with regard to the challenges of a changing long-term care system. (RH). |
