Annotation | Despite the steady growth in the population of older people in Israel, students in the helping professions have generally been found to give low priority to working with older people. This article attempts to find answers to a number of questions relating to this problem. What are the factors that account for the desirability to work professionally with older people? Why are so many uninterested in working with the aged? What is different about those who decide to work with older people? How can students in the helping professions be motivated to work with older people? The article offers practical suggestions to implement in Israel, which would be relevant in other countries, too. These include intergenerational courses and continuing education courses on issues related to ageing. (RH). |
