Annotation | Older people can play a number of roles in the criminal justice system: perpetrators, victims, prisoners, jurors, witnesses, judges. However, trends in the older US population raise questions about how the criminal justice system should view older people in these various capacities. In particular, should older people be singled out for differential treatment? For example, although older people may comprise a small proportion of the US prison population, their numbers are growing faster than any other group. (RH). |
