AnnotationThe perceptions are reported of learning gained by a small team of British social work students participating in evaluations of a local authority day centre and a residential home for older people with dementia. Students were provided with training, supervision and support, and worked alongside the principal evaluator in collecting and synthesising data. Their reflections on the process and content of learning are important for professional development and the promotion of competence knowledge, skills and values in working with people with dementia. This article presents an overview of the evaluations, the methods used, and a description of the student evaluation team's deliberations. Conclusions concern the future potential for collaborative evaluation and learning between higher education institutions, social workers in training, and social care providers of services for people with dementia.
